The family's patriarch, Manji, was fondly known as 'Prabtani' roughly translated to mean 'giver of water' - as he offered water 'free' from his well including any assistance needed to establish such a well on one own's land. The only condition was that the owner of any such well would not sell his water but, instead, offer it to others free of any cost. This traditional value has been cherished and embedded in every member of the family since the Manji patriarch first set foot in Africa at the turn of the 20th Century in 1902. Today, Community Service is synonymous not only with the Manji Family but is a tradition with the entire Twiga Team. Every member of the team is encouraged to partake in this tradition so that we can make this world a better place for the less fortunate. We have involved ourselves in assisting abandoned HIV positive babies through the New Life Home in Nairobi; help 'Street Girls' to a better life "OFF" the streets by providing financial, educational and employment opportunities; provide transport to the 'terminally ill' so that they can visit the Nairobi Hospice to meet and celebrate this day with other people so that the day's fun, food and activities will add 'LIFE TO THEIR DAYS'; provided relief food rations to those affected by the severe drought in Kimana, an area on the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro; provide a healthy balanced meal and full educational support to various primary schools in areas where such facilities are lacking, for example, Talek in Masai Mara and Mathare, an underprivileged area in Nairobi.
For the past many years, as Twiga Tours,we had supported these activities with our personal resources but as more and more of our 'esteemed guests' requested to be involved this support has grown considerably. As a result it was necessary to establish a non-profit foundation aptly named 'The Manji Foundation' to ensure it is absolutely transparent and accountable to our 'esteemed guests' who make generous contributions towards our involvement in these projects and to all those who care. It is important to assure ONE and ALL that these projects are carefully monitored by us and, at the same time, the full amount of any contribution is directly made available to our projects for maximum benefit. There are NO COSTS (HIDDEN OR OTHERWISE) INVOLVED not even a salary or other incidental costs with the result that 100% of the funds from our 'esteemed guests' including our own personal resources go directly to these projects that we support.
